Extravaganza Spotlight - Dropbox

Now that the Super Mario Icons Extravaganza is well underway, I thought it was the right time for me to tell you about some of the resources I’ve been using to make everything happen. Here's todays Extravaganza Spotlight:

Today, Imma tell you ‘bout Dropbox.

You’ve certainly heard of it before, and probably have been using it for a while. For the two of you that have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re in for a treat: imagine a folder whose content is automatically updated and available throughout all of your computers. Now imagine that for free! That’s Dropbox for you (actually, there are some other neat features in addition to that major one, but I won't ruin the surprise)!

Anyway, back when I was planning the Extravaganza, one of my biggest worries was where to host the download files. Getting my own server space was too expensive for my student’s budget, so that was out of the question, unfortunately. Free sharing services might have worked, but I cringed at the thought of having you sit through a tiresome waiting page every week…

At this point, I had been using Dropbox for quite a while, but the idea of using its public folder to host the files came up when discussing my problem with a friend. I loved it! I drop the files on the folder and they’re instantly online!

I love you, Dropbox!

If you want to check the service out, click here to join. We’ll both get 250MB of bonus extra space, in addition to the 2GB you get when you create an account.
